Wheels Outer Lane, Walkers Inner Lane. At least in theory :D
Переглядів 104Рік тому
After decades of peace and coexistence between wheeled users and pedestrians, COVID hit, so Seattle temporarily banned wheels at Green Lake to get more people out walking. Then just as skaters and bikers started looking forward to a post-COVID lifting of this ban, a small group of persuasive (perhaps well-connected) pedestrians invented a handful of dubious stories about the horrors wheeled use...

Replace Bennett stock kingpins! Grade8 or Aircraft grade
Переглядів 3773 роки тому
Just had a conversation with someone about Aircraft bolts and after rummaging for pics, unearthed this rough video I made in 2010 for my favorite Grade8 bolts, starting from 3" then cutting them down. The sound is choppy, but figured still useful for skaters starting out and upgrading their Bennett! I recommend chucking that stock kingpin ASAP if you plan to be pumping a lot of LDP miles. Now, ...

Some fun competition that was a mini part of a crazy fast garage race, same weekend as the Miami Ultraskate 2017 in Homestead speedway. Lennart Van de Peppel (featured in the vid) is one of the early organizers of the epic Dutch Ultraskates which have been coordinated to happen on the same weekends with Seattle/Pavedwave since around 2007. Two days after this event he and his team of four dista...

Joined this year by Clark Blumenstein for his 1st STP! He knocked it out with strength and style, pushed through the tough parts and made it Sunday with valuable hours to spare at the Finish Line beer garden! This was my 8th STP by skateboard and the course is getting better every year. Some long stretches that used to be chipseal have been replaced by smooth paths. We also got lucky - after a ...

    I remember seeing this video years ago, and thought, "that's pretty cool." Then forgot all about it. Fast forward to last year when I got a dropthrough longboard for my 53rd birthday. Tried and tried to pump, but with only moderate success. I'd extend my time between pushes, but would lose more and more speed till I'd eventually have to push again. Last week I got a waterborne surfskate adapter thinking that would be the magic feather. It wasn't. Stumbled across this video again, and thought I'd give it a quick go. THAT was the magic feather: decent speed and for the 1st time was actually GAINING speed. This after just a quick 5 min session before I had to go back inside to fix the family dinner. I can only imagine what will happen with some actual practice. Thank you for this video :D

    Why the softer bushing boardside? And, what pumping speed do you get out of it?

    • @pavedwave
      @pavedwave 6 місяців тому

      The theory is that the softer boardside bushing absorbs most of the initial energy, making it easier to initiate each turn, then as the turn progresses, the harder roadside bushing increasingly compresses, then when it reaches max compression it rebounds hard to re-center the hangar again.

    Awesome. The pump-4 in the video is too fast. When I tried to imitate pump-3 at "2:05" in the video, I was able to accelerate more comfortably than before. I will watch this video a little more and practice pumping. Thank you very much.

    To prevent bolt bend with wedges I put one lot of bolts in first tight a them bit too. The narrow ones first I do then push the longer ones in and I even have to screw them in till they come through the base plate then next you can tighten them down.

    which is better, grade 8 or aircraft?

    • @pavedwave
      @pavedwave Рік тому

      I haven't broken a Grade 8 for about 15 years, but I also haven't been trying to pump up hills with max pumps and really sloppy bushings like I used to, where pin to hangar contact happens. Either way I try to swap out old pins after hitting around 1,000 or so miles, depending on the amount of pumping. If mostly pushing, pins should last almost forever. Grade 8's have a little more malleability than aircraft grade, the latter seems at risk of being slightly more brittle.

    It looks like he is having a seizure but he is really moving fast. I can't believe how fast he is rolling. Is it easier to pump with skateboard/cruiser with narrow trucks or a longboard with really wide trucks? I am guessing go with the skateboard with really narrow trucks like what he is using.
